SCHOOL CLIMATE
Purpose Statement
The
purpose of school-wide behavior expectations at Harriet Tubman
Middle School is to provide a safe, positive and orderly
environment conducive to academic, social and character
development for our students in a warm and responsive
environment. This environment must be free from disruptions,
which interfere with the educational program. Our democratic
process demands that we not only protect the rights of those
students who may have been disruptive, but that we equally
protect the rights of students who are on task consistently and
engaged in learning. We view discipline as another learning
opportunity, stressing prevention and intervention.
Expectations
for all students in Tubman shall be designated to promote
behavioral changes enabling students to function
successfully.
Due process is ensured to students as part of a major suspension
informal hearing procedure, expulsion procedures, and for alcohol
and drug violations.
